The Three-Body Folio Society limited edition brings together Liu Cixin’s complete trilogy in a single volume of more than 1,300 pages, produced in just 750 numbered copies.
Illustrated by Matt Griffin, the edition combines printed Setalux cloth, holographic foil and digitally printed book edges within a single visual system. The text sections are printed on lightweight Fly White 1.2 paper, while the colour illustrations are reproduced on Gardapat Kiara 135 gsm, creating a deliberate contrast between typographic pages and image-focused sections.
At the same time, the design extends beyond the book itself. A cloth-covered clamshell case, finished with holographic silver foil, houses the volume and reinforces the connection between binding, finishing and packaging.
Each copy also includes a numbered limitation label, signed by Liu Cixin and Matt Griffin and applied by hand.
Production Highlights
One of the most distinctive elements of the Three-Body Folio Society edition is the relationship between the printed cloth cover and the book block. The three edges are digitally printed in four colours, allowing the image to continue beyond the page and visually connect with the artwork on the Setalux cloth.
Holographic silver foil is used across the cover, endpapers and presentation case, introducing a reflective element that changes with light and viewing angle. Meanwhile, the rounded-spine binding provides structure to a volume of considerable thickness.
Inside, two different paper stocks support the different types of content. Fly White 1.2 is used for the extensive text sections, while Gardapat Kiara 135 gsm provides a more substantial surface for Matt Griffin’s colour illustrations. As a result, the illustrated sections gain greater visual presence without interrupting the continuity of the volume.
The hand-applied limitation label completes each numbered copy and reinforces the individual character of the edition.
