Vacheron Constantin book Time is Art was published by Thames & Hudson to mark the Maison’s 270th anniversary, combining large-format photography with screen-printed cloth and burgundy sprayed edges.

The large square format gives the photography a central role, with close-up images, deep blacks, metallic reflections and saturated colour reproduced across 280 pages. The restrained cloth-covered exterior contrasts with the highly visual interiors, while the burgundy sprayed edges extend the colour identity of the cover to the book block.

The result is a large-format publication in which material choices, finishing and image reproduction work closely together.

Production Highlights

Screen printing on cloth

The cover is wrapped in beige Bukram P Extra Fantasia and screen printed in burgundy. The woven texture of the cloth remains clearly visible beneath the printed elements, giving the exterior a tactile, material quality.

Sprayed burgundy edges

All three edges of the book block are sprayed in burgundy, creating a strong visual continuity with the typography on the cover. The colour remains visible both when the book is closed and while the pages are being handled.

Large-format image reproduction

The 375 × 375 mm format gives the watch photography substantial scale. Metallic surfaces, polished components, deep shadows and saturated colour require careful control of detail, contrast and tonal transitions throughout the volume.

Protected printed surfaces

The interior is printed 4/4 CMYK with a protective varnish, supporting the reproduction of highly detailed photographic content while adding protection to the printed surface.

Material contrast

The neutral beige cloth and restrained exterior are set against intense photographic spreads, dark backgrounds and reflective metallic subjects. The contrast between cover and interior becomes one of the defining features of the finished book.
