VIENNA 1900 — THE PETER MARINO COLLECTION
Vienna 1900 – The Peter Marino Collection explores the art and decorative culture of Viennese Modernism through works from Peter Marino’s collection, bringing together painting, drawing, furniture and objects associated with the Wiener Werkstätte and the Vienna Secession.
The publication translates this richness into a highly tactile book object. Orange Brillianta cloth, red foil, blind embossing and a Japanese-style thread binding create a strong physical identity, while the interior alternates coated and textured papers to support different types of imagery and reproduction.
The exposed cord binding remains fully visible along the spine, making the structure itself part of the design and allowing the book to open with a distinctive, flexible profile.
Production highlights
Japanese-style exposed binding
The book is bound with an exposed Japanese-style thread construction using a visible cord along the spine. The binding becomes a graphic and structural element in its own right, rather than being concealed within the cover.
Brillianta cloth-covered boards
Both covers are wrapped in orange Brillianta® bookcloth. Its fine textile structure gives the volume a strong tactile presence and creates a vivid contrast with the neutral cord used for the binding.
Red foil and blind embossing
The title is finished with red foil stamping, while the area dedicated to the applied cover image is defined by blind embossing. These two treatments introduce different levels of depth and reflectivity on the same cloth surface.
Applied cover panel
The cover image is printed on Magno Satin and finished with anti-scratch lamination before being mounted onto the front board. This creates a distinct material layer against the surrounding textile surface.
Mixed paper selection
The interior combines Magno Satin 170 g/m² with Tintoretto Gesso 300 g/m², alternating a smoother coated surface with a more tactile, felt-marked paper. The change in paper supports different types of images and adds variation to the physical rhythm of the publication.
