Imagine an art show in which anyone can apply for entry and the works are chosen by leading artists.
Works in a multitude of styles are placed next to each other without “discrimination”: that is the Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Art in London.
Since 1768 the Academy has been inviting the public to this unique and unrepeatable artistic experience.
The show, once known simply as “the Exhibition”, has seen over the years a succession of artists of the caliber of Gainsborough and Reynolds, Turner and Constable, now legends in the history of art.
This catalog gathers this years’ entries and sensations and leads us through the museum’s rooms an experience with something for everybody interested in contemporary art.
