Thanks to new technologies, the field of artificial light is going through radical changes. The Vitra Design Museum dedicates its show “Lightopia” to these new developments.
The catalogue, made up of three volumes in a slipcase, addresses a wide variety of subjects. In the first volume, internationally famous authors take on the theme of the cultural history of light in a series of essays whose subjects range from set design to psychology.
The second volume presents a selection of 100 of the most important objects in the museum’s collection having to do with light. It also includes essays on developments in lighting design. The third volume contains interviews with notable light designers and artists who have chosen light as their medium.
The three volumes taken together make Lightopia a unique 360-degree look at the theme of light today.
