Project Description

To mark the 500th anniversary of the death of Hieronymus Bosch, Taschen has published this very large book, which includes all the works of the great master.
Splendid reproductions and detailed photographs transport us into the fantastic world of this foremost artist of the unconscious, whose famous “grotesques” are masterpieces that delve into the many facets of human nature, at times dark, at times spiritual.
Next to the usual hybrids of men and animals like centaurs, and mythological creatures like unicorns, devils, dragons, and griffins, we encounter numerous creatures that come straight from the artist’s imagination. Many secondary scenes illustrate proverbs and idioms in common use at the time of Bosch, who showed great originality in his depictions of them.
