The monograph, made up of 80 photographs, was first designed and curated in 1972 by the painter Marvin Israel, friend and colleague of Diane Arbus, together with her daughter Doon Arbus. Their aim in making this book was to remain as faithful as possible to the standards that Arbus had set for her work and to how she hoped it would be received.
This monograph is recognized world wide as a classic of photography. It is a timeless masterpiece and the foundation on which Diane Arbus’ international fame rests.
